Ancient & Modern Korea ( 고대 & 현대 한국)
Let’s jump into the ancient and modern lifestyle of Korea. ^_^
i) Palaces and Hanok house types 😍
-Changdeokgung Palace is said to be the favored palace of the Joseon princes and a personal favorite of Seoul locals.
-Gyeongbokgung palace is the largest and most well known palace.
-Deoksugung Palace, An elegant stone wall wraps around the structure, dividing the soft tranquility of its' interior from busy downtown city life right outside.
-Hanok is the traditional house of Korea (Urban environment). The architecture and designs of the Hanoks are really attractive. The traditional village is composed of lots of alleys and is preserved over 600 years.
-Modern architecture 😮
Seriously the words can’t describe the growth of architecture of Korea. Simply wow! The actual level of their creativity has reached its peak.
ii) Attires 👘
-Hanbok is the traditional dress of Korea. The designs and patterns differ according to the dynasties of ancient era. Hanbok is classified according to its purposes: everyday dress, ceremonial dress, and special dress. Ceremonial dresses are worn on formal occasions, including a child's first birthday, a wedding, or a funeral. Special dresses are made for shamans and officials.
Women's Traditional Hanbok consists of jeogori (shirt or a jacket), and chima (dress), which is a wrap around skirt that is usually worn full.
A man's hanbok consists of jeogori (jacket) and baggy pants that are called paji (pants). Also there are additional clothing Po which is the outer coat, or robe, jokki (a type of vest) and magoja (an outer jacket) worn over jeogori for warmth and style.

-Modern attires 👗👕👖
Currently, Western-style dresses have become the common form of attire throughout the world. Koreans have managed to preserve the basic design of their traditional attire up through the modern period. Their ability to do so can be attributed to their strong sense of national identity.
Few formal & casual dresses are here…
iii) Music 🎵🎷🎶🎻🎼
-South Korean music has three main categories:
- Korean traditional folk music
- Popular culture or K-Pop
- Western influenced non-popular music
-Korean traditional folk music
Korean traditional music is called as ‘Kugak’, which means national music. There were 2 forms of music.
Jeongak (orthodox music), listened and enjoyed by King, government officials and generals. This music was played during the state rituals like banquets, military processions, etc; and is considered as an aristocratic music.
Find the traditional music (instrument & singing) links below.
The name of the traditional instrument is 가야금 ‘Gayageum’.
I’ve got a chance to watch a live performance of a Korean music group called “SE:UM” in April 2019. SE:UM combines Korean traditional music with different genres of Western music. Their fusion performance was just mind blowing. A picture of SE:UM’s performance down here
-K-Pop culture (+ K-Dramas) 😍
[Whoa! Everything started here ^^😄Everything! 💗 모든 것은 이것에서 시작되었어요^^ㅎㅎ.… And the ‘girls’ all over the world became ‘Crazy fan girls’ because of dramas and K-Pop idols… In other aspect, the dramas and K-pop mean so much to the fan girls that words can’t describe how it helped or changed the fans’ everyday life. Pop music & Dramas helps us to come out of stress, loneliness and it makes you forget about your problems & takes you to a different world, that only people who are in it could understand. It’s more like a positive vibe that boosts up our good mood. Agree?? 😉 Not only these, people who watch dramas (any Asian drama) & listen to pop (K, C & J) get to know about their culture, language, worldly trend, food, etc. When people explore other country’s culture, attire, language, food and other stuffs they gain more knowledge, get good exposures and importantly come out of narrow-minded concept (shockingly that still exists) 😂 There are lots of websites and Apps that has Asian dramas, movies, particular country’s TV shows and much more. Just dive into the ocean of dramas and pop music 그리고 즐고운 시간 되세요!😏]
K-Pop (popular Korean music) is highly commercial throughout the world. Contemporary K-Pop stars are very famous and successful across Asia. Idol groups typically feature several entertainers of the same gender who perform a fusion of dance music, rhythm and blues, hip hop, funk and electronic influenced songs. Band, Band members, tunes (with concepts), lyrics, choreography, Audio-visual content, fashion and everything is essential constituent of K-Pop.
Music is a wide and deep topic to discuss about. Here I’ve shared few of the K-Pop band posters. Take a look at it. Check out the video links too!

K-Dramas have the specialty to make the viewers feel that they are inside that world. The wonderful artists, attractive locations, mesmerizing OSTs, cinematography, most importantly the script of the drama totally attracts and we(viewers) all will have to reckon with this beautiful feel..💜

-Western influenced non popular music
Ch'angga, Kagok & Yuhaengga are some of the western influenced South Korean music.
Ch'angga arose from Pansori but became increasingly popular in the early twentieth century for its fusion of European anthems, American hymns, Western folk tunes, and Japanese choral music. Though it had Western melodies, the lyrics were in Korean. The most well-known example of Ch'angga is the song “My Darling Clementine”.
Kagok (Lieder; referring to German art songs) is Western vocal music sung by a solo artist rather than an ensemble.
Yuhaengga (which literally means popular songs) is also known as sin kayo (new song). It became a part of everyday life in urban Korea in the mid-1920s as well as a crucial element of the term “modern”..
